Palliative care is the active total care of patients whose disease is incurable and where the control of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual problems is paramount. A comparative Cohort study to assess the Palliative care Needs, , Anxiety , depression, Quality of Life, Coping Strategies and Satisfaction with Care among Patients with Cancer and End stage Organ diseases was undertaken among 30 patients with cancer and end stage diseases totaling 30 with 6 patients categorized under each : COPD, ESRD, DCLD, HF and CVA at a selected Hospital, Chennai. End stage organ diseases patients had increased level of Anxiety , depression, Palliative care needs and lower quality of life compared to patients with Cancers especially in the social and Overall (global) . Both group used expressed lack of social support especially with regard to information and communication and used similar strategies for Coping.Keywords

Background of the Study
Parenthood is a fundamental human need. The urge to reproduce is universal. Every human being has a desire to become a parent and look after his or her children. The very desire for parenthood is a step in the direction of creating a family. Fertility or the ability to reproduce children has a positive social value where as, infertility has a negative value in Indian culture. Today fertility and infertility have both emerged equally problematic in the world population context. Most fertile couples around 90% should get pregnancy, within a year of regular intercourse. This rises to 95% over a two-year period.

Pregnancy is a period of expectant waiting and one that all of us aspire to experience at least once in our lifetime. Widespread concerns are being voiced in the western world about rising rates of childbirth interventions and the postnatal care. A clinical pathway is the integrated care map framed with the necessary and time bound care by the multi-disciplinary team to reduce the length of hospitalization say, cost-effectiveness, improves the level of satisfaction and patient outcome. In this study, researcher devised the clinical pathway to support postnatal period by necessary interventions with set of timely framed care to improve the level of satisfaction and to evaluate of maternal outcome.

Importantly, many of the changes advocated are not resource intensive and focus instead on working differently. Important features of this pathway include supporting and preparing women for labour and a belief that 'all pregnancies are normal unless proven otherwise' alongside the need for consistent, balanced information setting out the known risks and benefits of all modes of birth.

A pre-experimental study was conducted among 35 coronary artery disease patients selected by purposive sampling technique who were admitted at Apollo Main Hospitals, Chennai. A pre-experimental, one group pre test & post test design was adopted. The instruments used for data collection were demographic variables proforma, clinical variables proforma & Modified Karen Yontz stress questionnaire. Pretest was conducted with the help of structured questionnaire to assess the level of stress among selected coronary artery disease patients before progressive muscle relaxation therapy(PMRT). After the pre-test PMRT was administered on the same day through headphone for 2 sessions (morning & evening) over 30 mts with interval of 6 hours. The PMRT was administered for 3 consecutive days (6 sessions). All the selected CAD patients were informed regarding post-test which was scheduled exactly after 3 days of administration of PMRT. Post test was done on the same group with the help of the same structured questionnaire which was used in the pre-test. This study revealed that PMRT was an effective tool to reduce the level of stress among patients with coronary artery disease.

Background: Electrocardiogram (ECG) plays a crucial role in helping to diagnose, follow-up, and detect any abnormalities in a patient’s condition. Nurses are usually the first to conduct an ECG and therefore need to know how to interpret them. The present study aims to examine the emergency nurse’s knowledge and practice about ECG skills. Objective: The objective of the study is to assess the knowledge and practice on ECG skills among emergency nurses. Methodology: A descriptive correlative design was adopted for conducting this study among 30 Nurses by purposive sampling technique at selected hospitals in Chennai. An extensive review of literature and experts opinion laid foundation for the development of demographic variable proforma of nurses, structured knowledge questionnaire on ECG skills and observation checklist on ECG. A pilot study was conducted to establish feasibility and researchability of the study after obtaining setting permission, participants consent and brief introduction about the study was given to participants. The data regarding demographic variable proforma of nurses, structured knowledge questionnaire on ECG skills among nurses was collected by self reporting method. The practice was assessed by using observation checklist on ECG skills. The collect data were organized and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: More than half of nurses had moderately adequate knowledge (53.3%) and 46.6% of nurses have inadequate knowledge regarding ECG skills. Conclusion: There was no association between demographic variables such as gender, education status, years of experience in emergency ward and knowledge on ECG skills.Keywords

Stroke is a medical emergency. It is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Dysphagia presents in approximately 55% of all acute stroke patients admitted to hospital. In order to improve the overall outcome after stroke it is essential that the feeding performance need to be improved through Chin Tuck Against Resistance (CTAR) Exercise. This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Chin Tuck Against Resistance (CTAR) exercise in improvement of feeding performance among patients with CVA. Methods: A Quasi- experimental study was conducted after obtaining ethical clearance and setting permission. The data was collected after obtaining consent from 70 CVA patients, who were selected by consecutive sampling technique. Pretest data was collected from both the groups by predetermined and pretested tools such as demographic variable Performa, clinical variable proforma and FOIS (Functional Oral Intake scale) through interview and observation method. Chin Tuck Against Resistance Exercise was administered for 8 consecutive days, 3 times a day for experimental group of patients with CVA. Posttest assessment of feeding performance in both the groups was conducted after one week of intervention. Results: Study findings revealed that there was no significant different in mean pretest score of feeding performance in the control group (M=2.63, S.D+1.12) and experimental group (M=2.05, S.D+1.28) with ‘t’ value 1.95(p>0.05).Whereas, there was a significant difference in the posttest scores of feeding performance in the experimental group (M=6.4,S.D+3.25) which was higher than control group (M=3.13,S.D+1.23) with ‘t’ value of 18.22, (p<0.001). It can be attributed to the effectiveness of CTAR exercise to improve suprahyoid muscle activity and tongue pressure Conclusion: Chin Tuck Against Resistance Exercise was helpful in improving the feeding performance upon patients with CVA dysphagia.Keywords
